The following is a blocking drill based on a sequence of Shisochin "Goju-Ryu" kata.
My interpretation of it: Should you end up blocking a chest single hand shove from the inside, use this sequence to immediately position yourself to safety on the outside, and increase your options to counter.
- Uke (Defender): Start in “Shizentai / or Heiko Dachi” (Natural standing position)
- Tori (Attacher): Start in “Shizentai / or Heiko Dachi” (Natural standing position)
- Tori (Attacher): Do a right “Teisho Chudan” (Single chest shove)
- Uke (Defender): Do a left “Yoko uke / Uchi uke” Chudan (middle block)
- Uke (Defender): Do a right “Yoko uke / Uchi uke” Chudan (middle block)
- Uke (Defender): Twist and grapple your opponent’s right wrist with your right hand
[from the top]
- Uke (Defender): Pull his wrist down while doing right “Hikité” (Chamber), and simultaneously do a left “Tetsui Otoshi” (downward Hammer fist) on your opponent’s exposed elbow.
- Repeat the entire blocking sequence on the other side
- Tori (Attacher): Do a left “Teisho Chudan” (Single chest shove) ...etc.
When practicing this drill, speed and fluidity is what you are looking for.
Time to practice!
